Creating a Powerful Brand Image
January 22, 2015 - 5 minutes read- Would you like to feel more confident with your personal image?
- Would you like to be taken more seriously at work?
- Are you stuck in a style rut and struggle with knowing what to wear?
If you answer ‘Yes’ to any of these questions you are not alone. Many of my clients feel the same. It is easy to take how we look for granted and to get stuck in a rut. However, our image has a huge impact on our professional and personal life. I am not talking whether we have modelesque looks or a figure like Cindy Crawford or Kate Moss. I am talking about our STYLE.
What do these different styles say about my personal brand? Which one would you buy into?
Three good reasons why your style is worth investing in…
1 – Other people’s perception
How we look is our own personal brand. It says who we are. It only takes seconds for others to form an impression of us based on how we look. They make assumptions about our reliability, intelligence, trust-worthiness, financial success and job suitability based. What do you want your clothes to say about you?
2 – Your confidence
What we wear impacts how we feel about ourselves. When we look in the mirror and see an image that we are happy with, it gives us more energy and positively impacts our thoughts and our behaviour.
3 – Law of Attraction
Our image can impact what we attract, for example, when we are going for a new job or looking for a new relationship. If you don’t always get the outcome that you want, think about what your clothes might be saying about you.
How to create the right image….
For us to feel comfortable and confident it is important that we find our own unique style and that we don’t try to be something that we are not. To find your unique style:
A – Know Yourself
Who are you? (e.g. are you a rock or hippy chick at heart) What is your lifestyle? (e.g. career woman or stay at home mum) What are your preferences (e.g. tailored or casual). Prioritise what is most important for you out of; fashion, comfort, versatility, style, impact, durability and ease of maintenance. Consider these when you shop. Be true to yourself and your preferences to create a look that you feel comfortable in and that works for you.
B – Dress for your shape and colouring
Effective styling can; add curves or remove curves, make you look taller or shorter, add or take away inches – emphasising your good bits and hiding your worst bits.Wearing the right style and colours (for your skin and hair tone) also makes you look younger and feel more confident! Consider on what shapes and colours best suit you, and once you find a formula that works for you – stick to it!
C – Don’t be a victim of fashion
A common mistake that is thinking that fashion equals style! If we wear something just because it is fashionable, but it is the wrong style or colour, this can make us look older and larger, impacting our confidence. Instead make sure that you have your wardrobe staples and use fashion items to refresh your existing wardrobe that season.
D – Consider your environment
Think about what impression that you want to create and what is appropriate for that situation and environment. If you get a new role or promotion at work how do you want to come across to your new team? If you are going on a date, what do you want your clothes to say about you?
Don’t under-estimate the power of your image. Invest in yourself to allow yourself to be the best version of you!
Happy styling!
